The nuclear disaster of Fukushima Daiichi which followed the earthquake and the tsunami of the 11th March 2011 is the largest one with Chernobyl (1986), both of them are rated level 7 on the International Nuclear Event Scale.

The 5th May 2012, Japanese government (Democratic party of Japan) stopped the production of nuclear electricity,but the pro-nuclear candidate Shinzo Abe (Liberal Democratic Party) won the elections of the 16th december 2012 and restarted most of nuclear plants.
